Dr. Yung Wai Kit, Trevor, our lead psychologist, is an Educational Psychologist specializing in a wide range of mental health conditions that affect children, including Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Dyslexia, and other Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. With over 16 years of clinical experience, he has dedicated his career to working with children with special educational needs (SEN).
Not only is Dr. Yung a seasoned clinician, but he is also a dedicated researcher. His particular interests revolve around exploring Neuro-Cognitive and Neurophysiological Deficits associated with ADHD and Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (SCT). His passion lies in integrating the latest findings from neuroscientific research into his clinical practice. By delving into the biological mechanisms behind psychological deficits, Dr. Yung aims to shed light on how these vulnerabilities interact with environmental factors, resulting in various behavioral symptoms.
In addition to clinical and research roles, Dr. Yung plays an active part in education and professional training. Currently, he serves as a visiting lecturer at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he imparts his knowledge on developmental disorders to both undergraduate and postgraduate students through engaging lectures. Furthermore, he consistently provides training sessions for allied health professionals and teachers in Hong Kong and overseas. By deepening their understanding of attention and executive functions, Dr. Yung equips these professionals with effective interventions to support children who face challenges in these areas.
❖ Our Approach ❖
Parents-Child Centered
Our goal is to make connections between different variables to understand the root causes of your child’s symptoms. We recognize that symptoms are behavioral descriptions of underlying psychological deficits. In developmental disorders, a single symptom can stem from multiple causes, such as neurophysiological, psychological, and environmental factors. We utilize various assessment methods to fully understand the different challenges your child is facing, including neurophysiological and neuropsychological tests, behavioral observations, and parent interviews. By establishing different causes of these deficits and their connections, we aim to develop personalized comprehensive treatment programs to not only address their difficulties but also promote their overall well-being and development.
Unveiling the Root Causes of Children’s Challenges
We use a well-rounded approach aiming for your child’s holistic development and growth. We believe that problems affecting children are not solely caused by their vulnerabilities. Rather, they often arise due to a mismatch between the child's unique characteristics and those of their parents and environment.
With this understanding, our approach is centered around providing in-depth assessments that empower parents to comprehend and work with their child's difficulties. We recognize the challenges families face in caring for children with developmental disorders, and we are dedicated to working collaboratively with parents, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to significantly enhance their children's emotional well-being, school performance, family relationships, and social skills.
